In the last few weeks, I’ve reviewed a game set in a murderous dystopia of the future; another set in a murderous dystopia of the historic past; and one more inside an empty, suicide-tinged hotel.
To try a game where you’re tasked with finding cute snails or little dinosaurs in a history-based digital version of doesn’t overcomplicate things in any way, but in the push to create something simple, Belgian outfit Crazy Monkey Studios has put a genuine level of thought into this game’s execution that firmly pulls it out of “cheap distraction” territory and into the land of great-value fun. The graphics are cute, friendly and basic, but performance stays high as a result.
The sole song that plays when you’re looking for items on your checklist is repetitive, yes, but it’s unintrusive, calm, and forgettable; it complements the experience but doesn’t stick in your head to the point it puts you in the fetal position, as with On top of this, the game’s stages are nicely paced without being too easy or difficult, with handy hints giving you an idea of where to find each one. Early stages start small; later ones expand to take a lot more of the available space, but without clutter or random design. Like where you’re missing one item and you can’t find it for love nor money.

The hint may be just a little bit too cryptic, and you effectively find yourself searching for, like, an egg in a massive forest, or a banana in a zoo. It begins to drive you a little bit crazy, but never so much so that you dislike the game. doesn’t force you to find everything in a level to unlock the next one; you can simply come back with fresh eyes and an even fresher take on the clue and you could find yourself finding that last thing in about 15 seconds. You can dip in and out as you please, with your progress saved for your return. If you’ve completed a level, you can reset it for someone else to have a go. Again, these are simple, tried-and-tested approaches gleaned from mobile games, but they work. One thing Crazy Monkey Studios’ mobile-friendly approach stumbles on is its surprisingly weird control system on console.
I tried it on Xbox One, on which the left stick moves the cursor while the A button picks out the item you’re looking for. Straightforward enough, but then the second stick moves the camera too; the D-pad, weirdly, cycles between the item list and associated hints.
